implementation of an educational computer game: Quest Atlantis

In today's world, computer games have been used for education in addition
to entertainment. Such an educational computer game, which is used for
both in-school and after-school contexts, is Quest Atlantis
(http://QuestAtlantis.org). Quest Atlantis has currently been used by 5000
children on 4 continents in 7 countries.

Quest Atlantis project is an Internet-based meta-game built using 3D
technologies providing elements of play, role playing, adventure, and
learning, allowing 9-12 year old children to virtually travel to
three-dimensional Quest Atlantis lands where they select quests (engaging
curricular tasks), talk with other Questers and mentors, and build
virtual personae.

Pedagogical, technical, and social issues to the development and
implementation of Quest Atlantis will be discussed in this talk and the
reactions and opinions of the audience will be welcomed.
